21st June

After the briefest of absences, sizeable flocks of waders returned to the island, including 44 Bar-tailed Godwits ,15 Knots, 27 Sanderlings and 113 Turnstones. The best sighting of the day was a pair of Little Terns, a new species for the year, flying along the links.

Little Terns have occasionally nested on North Ronaldsay, although in most years they are a very scarce visitor.
