A lot of excited Black-headed Gull activity in the middle of the night was caused by an emergence of Ghost Moths in the fields next to the observatory: the gulls were hovering and swooping over the grass trying to catch the moths as they took flight.
Female Ghost Moth. The males are smaller and have mainly white forewings. This species feeds on a wide variety of plants, including strawberries, potatoes and cannabis.
